7 Business Scams (and How to Avoid Them)

How the scam works: A customer will overpay for goods ordered, and then ask the business to ship the goods with a check for the difference. Problem is, the original payment was made with stolen checks or credit cards -- meaning the scammer walks away with the goods and the extra check.

How you can avoid it: Always verify payment made by a first-time buyer before shipping anything. And be wary of any overpayment inquiries from customers.
