Entrepreneurial Presidents

In his youth Lincoln worked his family's farm, hired himself out for odd jobs, and briefly co-owned a grocery store. Later, he became a partner in a law practice. While practicing law and serving in the House of Representatives, he created an invention that consisted of bellows below a ship that could inflate to help ships sail above sandbars or other obstructions. The invention received a patent, though it was never manufactured.
