Great Design? 11 Products Destined to be Kitschy

Nominated by: Julie Lasky, Editor, I.D. Magazine

"To me, kitsch refers to forms that convey a giddy attitude of total cluelessness. Over time, these things pick up an ironic patina. They are both loved and scorned. Are today's designers naive enough to produce kitsch defined the old-fashioned way? I think when they get giddy and clueless, it's more a matter of technology. They're usually loading tons of unnecessary features onto an appliance or making a tool far more complicated than it needs to be, so I would suggest that our kitsch of the future will be a hysterically overwrought gizmo like this one."
