The Coolest Industries: Where to Start a Business Now

The green market has room to grow and plenty of space for new players. Vu Thai, founder of Efficient Lighting, a manufacturer of fluorescent lights, estimates that only 20 percent of the U.S. market for energy-efficient lighting has been tapped. "It's only the tip of the market," says Thai, whose company has benefited from tax breaks and incentives offered by the state of California -- another growing trend in the green market that savvy companies are seizing upon. Then there's Aaron Hall of Borrego Solar Systems, who sensed a green movement on the horizon years ago. "I saw the writing on the wall back in 2001, and now global warming and energy independence is on everyone's mind," he says. Need proof? The company is expected to hit $60 million in revenue this year.
