In Partnership with Inc.

Christopher Walworth, Sea Rebel Marine Industries

FULL ESSAY

My business is SeaRebel Marine Industries Inc. My company has developed the C/REBL rechargeable motorized water sports board. C/REBL stands for 'Commando/Rescue Electric Boat, Light.' An electric hybrid design is under development. I am a life-long body boarder, and I am convinced that modern sports boards were inspired by the two-by-four. I started SeaRebel in order to offer a revolutionary water sports board to a market saturated with low-tech knockoffs. Modern sports boards are rather dull to look at; they are long and flat. I had a vision of a curvy and sexy sports board with an integrated watertight compartment to protect your wallet and keys. The curviness of my C/REBL motorized sports board makes surfers blush.

The present economic conditions have inspired me to complete the engineering, design and software work required to protect the important aspects of my design, using domestic and international patents, and to manufacture the prototypes. I have an intense desire to get C/REBL into production. These hard economic times inspire new creations and disruptive innovations. A rechargeable motorized water sports board is very disruptive.

My design uses specialized motors called 'out runners' which are very efficient but suppliers are difficult to find. Using the Alibaba.com web site and services, I am able to find manufacturers of these motors. I purchased motors and related components and incorporated them into the design. The design also calls for several high-tech molds, which are used for the hull and the jet pump. I rely on Alibaba.com to help me find mold manufacturers, and to ensure that I get the best possible price for the work that I need performed.

Within the C/REBL design, I utilize all of my engineering, software, design and entrepreneurial skills. The issues that have arisen over the course of development have made me realize that the application of a creative mind can lead to some very unorthodox yet sophisticated and elegant solutions: Who would ever place a BLDC motor directly into water? I do, because I need to pull maximum horsepower out of a BLDC motor the size of an espresso cup!

In order to manufacture the C/REBL sports board, very sophisticated processes and specialized equipment which cost a lot of money are required. The CNC Router required to build the hull components costs in excess of fifteen-thousand dollars. The CAD software costs three-thousand dollars. The molds for the power plant and the pump cost eleven-thousand dollars. The molds for the battery compartment cost eight-thousand dollars. Using Alibaba, I have been able to find cost-effective suppliers from around the world: from mold makers in Asia, to CNC router manufacturers in the USA, to CAD software suppliers in the UK. Should I win the Alibaba.com and the Newpreneur of the year grand prize business grant, I will use the money to drive the production of the C/REBL motorized sports board and ship it to the world.
