In Partnership with Inc.

Kristin Black, UnBOWlievable LLC

FULL ESSAY

UnBOWlievable is a hair bow and hair accessories retail store that was founded in the midst of desperation, a hopeless and failing marriage, and a mother's strength and determination to provide for her daughter NO MATTER WHAT. The broken marriage that motivated unBOWlievable has been restored and as the marriage grows stronger the business grows stronger too.

However, the recession has given Unbowlievable an even bigger push to succeed. It has encouraged us to plant ourselves now, while people are willing to negotiate with us and sink our roots deep so that when the economy picks up we'll be way ahead of the game.

We currently have a great need to use Alibaba. I have so many pages bookmarked and products that I'd like to purchase. We all know that the prices found on Alibaba are unbeatable but with high minimum purchases it still requires a lot of money up front. No matter how good the return. We currently can't afford to purchase the products that we want because we don't have the funds to purchase in bulk. If we won this business grant, about 65% of the funds would be put towards purchasing product for our store. The rest of the money would be invested into opening a second store (we have several prospect locations now for our second store!).

Our goal is to be a nationally known brand and to have a store in malls all across America. That takes funding and during this recession it's hard to find funds. We've sold almost everything we have. I've even sold my diamond engagement ring to put the money towards our store. I don't say that for sympathy, that's just proof of how much we believe in Unbowlievable and we know, without a doubt that it will be a HUGE success!

Selling hair accessories is "what" we do but our hope is that people will draw strength and inspiration from our story and that our once "hopeless" situation will encourage millions of others to stay strong, have faith and keep pressing on. May each of us have a story of tragedy turned triumph!
