Seagate Introduces Storage Remote Access
The Maxtor Central Axis is a password-protected online service requiring no extra applications or plug-ins.
Seagate (NYSE:STX) has announced an upcoming free software upgrade that will provide a secure and user-friendly remote access service to home and small business customers wanting to retrieve content stored on their Maxtor Shared Storage II network attached drive through any Internet browser.
Available in late spring, Maxtor's Web access and share software upgrade, dubbed Maxtor Central Axis, is a password-protected online service that requires no applications or plug-ins to download. It establishes a secure connection to Maxtor Shared Storage II without the need to disable firewalls, which would leave a network unprotected.
"We have entered the age of anywhere access, and people are dependent on access to information regardless of their location," BenHur Castro, senior director of product line management for Maxtor Storage Solutions, said in a statement.
