NetSuite (NYSE:N) has introduced a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) application development platform for software developers, vendors and resellers. The NetSuite Business Operating System (NS-BOS) is designed to enable the creation and customization of industry-specific applications targeting small and midsize businesses and divisions of larger companies in a range of verticals.

Applications developed on NS-BOS will be hosted on NetSuite's multi-tenant, on-demand architecture, reducing setup and maintenance costs. Integrating the NetSuite application within the NS-BOS development environment allows developers to embed on-demand enterprise resource planning (ERP), customer relationship management (CRM) and e-commerce tools within their applications. The new platform also includes SuiteScript D-Bug, a real-time, interactive debugger that allows applications to be tested in an actual server environment against live data to see how they perform in real-world conditions.

"NS-BOS provides the first complete on-demand platform for the development of verticalized business applications," Zach Nelson, CEO of NetSuite, said in a statement. "By building atop NetSuite's best-in-class ERP, CRM and e-commerce functionality, ISVs (independent software vendors) can focus on differentiating their offerings by adding business-specific functionality."
