Senate Democrats this week delayed a vote on a $157 billion economic stimulus package in a move to attract Republican support.

The plan, which adds additional tax rebates and write-offs to a $145 billion package approved last week by the House and backed by the White House, includes extra provisions for businesses, veterans and senior citizens.

To be approved, the plan would require 60 votes. The Senate is expected to vote on the measure later this week.
