As baby boomers drift into retirement, their former businesses will begin hitting the market it record numbers, creating new opportunities for younger entrepreneurs.

As a result, it's a great time to consider becoming your own boss, says Cress Diglio, chairman of the International Business Brokers Association.

This week, Diglio offered step-by-step advice on how to do just that. The first step, he says, is to conduct a self assessment by analyzing the rationale for wanting to buy a particular business. That's followed by establishing financial expectations, preparing a personal financial statement and assembling a team of advisors.

With small businesses facing so few options for dental plans, many end up either opting out or over purchasing benefits, says Guardian Life Insurance's Executive Director Clancy Merrill.

"A budding technology company with primarily Gen X and Gen Y employees probably doesn't need coverage for dentures and shouldn't absorb the cost for a benefit that their employees probably won't use," Merrill said in a statement this week.

To help out, Guardian Life is expanding its Dental Guard Basic and Basic Plus plans to allow smaller employers to mix and match the appropriate level of coverage for various dental procedures.  The plans will also offer an increased range of lifetime deductibles, optional coverage for posterior composites and liberalized participation requirements.

For businesses with five to nine employees, the plans offer more coverage limits on orthodontia work and elimination of the 12 month deferment requirement on major and periodical work.
