Summer Hires Get a Raise

Employers expect to pay more for seasonal workers this year, a survey finds.

Employers expect to pay more for summer workers this year, with many looking to fill year-round staff positions, a new survey shows.

Twenty-three percent of 3,000 employers surveyed by Careerbuilder, a Chicago-based employment firm, said they planned to hire summer workers. Nearly half said they expected to pay $10 an hour or more for summer help, while seven percent expected to pay over $20 an hour.

As many as 66 percent said they would also be looking for permanent employees among their summer hires, the survey found.

"If you want to parlay a seasonal stint into a year-round placement, make sure to let your employer know you're interested and showcase your talents through action, results, leadership and accountability," Careerbuilder.com Vice President of Human Resources Rosemary Haefner said in a statement.

Among industries expecting to hire the most summer help were hospitality, retail, and office support.
