The solution offers converged communications and desktop applications.
Nortel (NYSE:NT) and IBM (NYSE:IBM) have partnered to offer a new carrier-enabled unified communications solution designed specifically for Lotus Notes and Lotus Sametime to help companies improve productivity and reduce the need for business travel. The solution will feature real-time presence and multimedia conferencing integrated with the Lotus applications.
The solution offers customers a converged communications and desktop applications service based on a new, fully integrated desktop client model. It extends existing Lotus solutions to include rich multimedia features, such as presence, unified messaging and click-to-collaborate, without the need to purchase, install and manage additional voice network infrastructure.
"Data from Insignia Research has shown that productivity is improved by 60 minutes each day through unified communications," John McCready, general manager of Carrier Multimedia Networks at Nortel, said in a statement.
