Few Woman-Owned Firms Looking Abroad
A survey finds women business owners aren't making the most of the global marketplace.
Woman businesses owners aren't taking full advantage of the global marketplace in the competition for corporate clients, according to the Women's Business Enterprise National Council.
In a recent survey of more than 400 woman-owned businesses across the United States, only a few placed India among their top five suppliers for goods and services, even though it was cited as a leading outsourcing country by larger corporations, the Washington D.C.-based advocacy group said. By contrast, most survey respondents cited Canada as their top supplier.
Joan Kerr, chair of the group's global committee, said India's dominance as a supplier for larger companies should prompt more U.S. women entrepreneurs to look at the country as an important resource.
"The study produces clear evidence that women's businesses must think creatively about partnering or buying abroad to win corporate clients," Linda Denny, the group's president and CEO, said in a statement.
