To help small-business owners pay their workers, manage their tax liabilities and avoid potential IRS fines, Intuit recently launched an online payroll service. The software, which costs $30 per month, takes a number of burdensome steps out of the payroll process by calculating earnings, payroll taxes and deductions from a list of employee work hours.

By downloading the service, employers can print paychecks and use a direct deposit feature to facilitate payday procedures. The program will features alerts for payroll taxes, fills in federal and state forms automatically, and comes with an E-Pay service for submitting tax payments.

To learn more about the service and access a free three-month trial, go to www.intuitonlinepayroll.com. A video tutorial is available at www.intuitonlinepayroll.com/video.

Dress for Success

As more workplaces adopt a casual dress code, gauging the appropriateness of clothing styles for different business occasions can be tricky.

In September, the Protocol School of Washington is offering a three-day seminar called "Business Image Coaching" that includes tips on building a wardrobe, avoiding common image mistakes, dressing for company events and packing for a business trip, among other topics. The event will provide everything from general pointers on projecting the right image, to rules as specific as checkers versus stripes.

The course takes place Sept. 5-8 in McLean, Va., and costs $4,900 for U.S. and Canadian students, and $7,400 for international students.

To register, go to www.psow.com or call 877-766-3757. Deadline for registration is Aug. 21.
