South Dakota Tops List of Best States for Small Business

 

Nov. 1, 2006 -- South Dakota has the best climate for small businesses in the country, according to annual rankings released today by the Small Business & Entrepreneurship Council. The rankings take into consideration taxes, regulations, spending, and public policy issues that affect the entrepreneurial community.

Nevada and Wyoming also were at the top of the list, while New Jersey, California and District of Columbia had the worst climates, the group said.

Between 2003 and 2006, the rate of job creation was 71 percent faster among states in the top half of the index versus states in the bottom half.
