New IRS Small Business Chief

Nov. 13, 2006 -- Kevin Brown, the current commissioner of the Internal Revenue Service's Small Business and Self-Employed division, was recently named deputy commissioner for Services and Enforcement.

Effective Dec. 1, Brown will be responsible for overseeing the agency's four operating divisions, as well as criminal investigations and the Office of Professional Responsibility.

Kathy Petronchak will replace Brown as commissioner of SB/SE, a division of 30,000 employees and a $2.6 billion annual budget that helps small businesses comply with tax obligations and applicable laws.
