Consumer Prices Down

Nov. 16, 2006 -- Consumer prices dropped by 0.5 percent last month led by lower energy costs, the Labor Department reported today.

Excluding energy prices, which were down 7 percent in October, so-called core consumer prices rose 0.1 percent, the report said.

Consumers paid more for food and beverages, education, and health services, while housing prices were unchanged, the report said.
