Unemployment Down

 

Nov. 3, 2006 -- The nation's unemployment rate in October dropped to a five-year low of 4.4 percent, the Labor Department reported today.

October payrolls grew by 92,000, while September and August payrolls were revised upward by a combined 139,000, the report said.

Most new jobs last month were in the service sector, the report said. The biggest job losses were in manufacturing and construction.
