Dec. 5, 2006 -- Jovita Carranza, the Bush administration's pick for deputy leader of the Small Business Administration, will appear before a Senate confirmation hearing on Wednesday, according to the Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Carranza, who was nominated for the position in September, is a former executive at UPS, where she oversaw air operations and automated package processing, among other divisions. She was also president of Latin American and Caribbean operations, and was named Hispanic Woman of the Year by Hispanic Business magazine in 2004.

SBA administrator Steven Preston has said Carranza possesses "great sensitivity to the issues small businesses face as well as the sophistication of being part of an organization with complex operations."
