Dec. 7, 2006 -- New claims for unemployment benefits fell by 34,000 to 324,000 in the week ending Dec. 2, the Labor Department reported Thursday.
The national insured unemployment rate at the end of November was 1.9 percent, the report said.
The largest decreases last week were in California, Illinois, and Florida, while the largest increases were in Wisconsin, Texas, and Indiana.
