Mass Layoffs Increased in November
Dec. 22, 2006 -- There were 1,208 mass layoffs in November, according to a report released Thursday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Each action involved at least 50 workers from a single organization, and the number of employees involved was 136,415. The largest numbers were seen in the manufacturing sector.
National unemployment in November rose to 4.5 percent, up from 4.4 percent in October, but still down from 5 percent a year ago.
