Jan. 9, 2007 -- Post-holiday shopping lifted sales at U.S. stores by 0.7 percent in the week ending Jan. 6, the International Council of Shopping Centers reported Tuesday.

On a year-on-year basis, sales rose by 3.4 percent, the sharpest gains since Oct. 14, the report said.

Colder weather is expected to give retailers a further boost later this month, said ICSC chief economist Michael Niemira.
