Feb. 21, 2007 -- A college degree in business administration is still the best preparation for a successful future in business, according to a recent survey of senior executives by Accountemps, an online job-listing service based in Menlo Park, Calif.

Of 150 executives polled, 39 percent said they would take a business administration degree if they were in college today, compared to 49 percent in a similar poll in 1996.

After business administration, 21 percent said they would take a liberal arts degree, compared to 14 percent in 1996. Other responses included accounting, computer science, and law, the survey found.

"Degrees with a broader focus, such as business administration and liberal arts, may be the most attractive as they typically provide a diverse course of study and a focus on critical thinking," Max Messmer, the chairman of Accountemps, said in a statement, adding that those skills prepare students for success in a variety of environments.
