Online Job Demand Hits Record High
March 8, 2007 -- Online recruiting rose to a near three-year high in February, driven by greater employment demand in utilities, transportation, and warehousing, Monster Worldwide reported on Thursday.
The online recruiting firm's monthly employment index jumped nine points last month to 177, its highest level since the index was launched in April 2004, the report said.
Based on results from more than 1,500 online job boards, recruiting increased in 19 out of 20 industries tracked by the index, as well as 22 out of 23 occupational categories, the report said. Recruiting was up in all nine U.S. Census Bureau regions covered by the index, the report said.
"The significant increase last month is encouraging, and indicates a broad strengthening in online demand among U.S. employers at the midpoint of the first quarter," Steve Pogorzelski, Monster Worldwide's international group president, said in a statement.
