Carbon Post-it Notes Win National Business Contest
March 19, 2007 -- Carbon Post-it Notes created by students at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, S.D., was awarded top prize in the first annual EntrepreneurshipWeek USA Challenge, a national business idea contest, organizers announced last week.
The contest, which ran alongside EntrepreneurshipWeek from Feb. 24 to March 3, challenged students nationwide to come up with a value-added service or product from Post-it Notes.
More than 200 submissions were received, including self-adhesive wrapping paper Post-it Notes, and scented Post-it Notes, among others, according to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, the event's main sponsor.
The carbon Post-it Note allowed users to leave a written message by simply scratching the surface of the paper with a coin or other hard edge, eliminating to need for a pen or pencil.
"Student entrepreneurs from virtually every discipline on campus participated in the challenge," Kauffman Foundation CEO Carl Schramm said in a statement. "You don't have to be a business major to think, dream, and create like an entrepreneur."
