Study: Corporate Social Responsibility Growing
April 11, 2007 -- Four out of five businesses worldwide incorporate some form of corporate social responsibility policies in their business activities -- from donating to local charities to monitoring labor standards, the Society for Human Resource Management reported Tuesday.
In a wide-ranging survey of human-resources managers across several nations, 91 percent of businesses polled in the United States said they participated in corporate social responsibility practices, the Alexandria, Va.-based trade group reported. Among all seven nations surveyed, Brazil had the highest level of participation, at 95 percent, while China had the lowest, the report said.
"Organizations are increasingly assessing the social and environmental impact of their business decisions," Susan Meisinger, the group's president, said in a statement.
Meisinger cited globalization as a driver behind the growth in corporate social responsibility.
