Energy Firm Wants Businesses to Go Green

April 19, 2007 -- DTE Energy, a Detroit-based energy firm, is encouraging small businesses to power their offices by wind, sun, water, and other environmentally-friendly sources, the company said Thursday.

The company's GreenCurrents program gives customers the option of choosing a renewable energy plan that best fits their budget, including a 1,000 kilowatt block of green energy for just $20 a month. Alternatively, the company will also match a businesses total electricity usage with renewable power for an extra two cents per kilowatt hour, the company said.

"With demand for electricity increasing and concern for the environment growing, renewable power will play an increasing role in meeting the future energy needs of Michigan and the nation," Anthony F. Early, DTE Energy Chairman and CEO, said in statement.
