Businesses Affected by Katrina Receive Grants

April 20, 2007 -- As many as 200 small-business owners in Louisiana affected by Hurricane Katrina received up to $18,000 this week under the state's new disaster recovery grant and loan program.

The program, launched in January, is aimed at helping smaller firms rebuild in the aftermath of the August 2005 storm. More than 3,400 local businesses have been approved for grants and up to 2,000 have already received checks, state officials said. Approximately $63 million is expected to be distributed under the program.
