Booming Market for Mobile Enterprise Apps
May 4, 2007 -- As the global workforce continues to expand outside traditional offices or corporate headquarters, service providers for wireless enterprise applications are expected to generate more than $66 billion in revenue over the next five years, according to a recent study.
By the end of the year, revenue from mobile enterprise applications over wired and wireless networks is expected to reach $9 billion in the U.S. market alone, according to Insight Research, a Boonton, N.J.-based research group.
"Analyze AT&T, Sprint, or Verizon and you will find that each company now commands the local, metro, long-haul, and wireless assets required to deliver an end-to-end corporate solution," Robert Rosenberg, the group's president, said in a statement.
Consolidation in the telecommunications industry, coupled with an increase in the rise of occupations that are no longer tied to a workplace, is prompting many businesses to shift capital expenditures from infrastructure to service control, managed services, and applications, Rosenberg said.
"In the months ahead we see a real rush to develop mobile applications," he said.
