Congress to Launch Robot Caucus
Citing a need to monitor emerging technologies for growing businesses, among other issues, a bipartisan group of federal lawmakers on Wednesday announced the formation of the nation's first congressional caucus on robotics.
The group will focus on raising public awareness of the robotics industry, along with policy issues related to innovation, R&D, utilization, and global competitiveness, officials said.
"Robots are now being used well beyond traditional industrial automation applications like assembling automobiles," Rep. Mike Doyle (D-Pa.) said is a statement. "Today, they are being used to defend our nation, perform surgery, fill prescriptions, deliver supplies and materials, and even as tools to educate our children," Doyle said.
The group is expected to start meeting in September.
