HP Acquires Inc. 500 Software Firm

 

Hewlett-Packard, the Palo Alto, Calif.-based IT firm, has acquired SPI Dynamics, a security-software company based in Atlanta, the company announced this week.

Under the terms of the deal, SPI Dynamics will be integrated into the software unit of HP's Technology Solutions Group. According to HP company officials, the acquisition will further strengthen its leadership in the IT application quality management market, while allowing businesses to assess and identify security vulnerabilities in their web applications. SPI Dynamics software can also be used to meet auditing and compliance requirements, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, company officials said.

"The combination of HP and SPI Dynamics will allow us to scale and provide our customers with the industry's most comprehensive application quality, performance and security assessment solutions," Brian Cohen, CEO of SPI Dynamics, said in a statement.

SPI Dynamics ranked No. 220 on the 2006 Inc. 500 list of the nation's fastest-growing private companies.
