Conference Call Shoppers Fess Up
More than 12 million U.S. office workers admit to secretly shopping online during a business-related conference call, according to a survey by Ipsos Insight and Bill Me Later.
Of that total, some 23 percent said they had done so more than five times in the past year, and 12 percent more than 10 times. Despite that kind of frequency, only 1 million said they had ever been caught, with the results ranging from embarrassment to asking conference-call participants' opinions on online products.
The survey found that the most frequent violators were college-educated men, age 35-54, who earned more than $50,000 a year.
