SBA Offers More Help to Inner-City Firms

The Small Business Administration this week unveiled another program aimed at boosting support for inner-city businesses, the third in a series of initiatives being rolled out this year.

As part of a broader strategy to encourage entrepreneurship in underserved urban markets, the agency is forming a partnership with the Initiative for a Competitive Inner City to better address the needs of business owners. Earlier this month, the agency announced a similar partnership with HOPE.

The agency will also make its Community Express loan program more accessible for borrowers in underserved markets.

"We believe bolstering entrepreneurial success in these areas will generate new jobs, attract investment, and provide a more sustainable economic base in distress areas," SBA Administrator Steve Preston said in a statement.
