Survey: Americans More Financially Secure
Despite the recent credit crunch, more Americans felt financial secure in October, with a higher number setting aside cash for savings and investments, a recent survey found.
Among more than 3,000 consumers surveyed nationwide, 51 percent rate their level of personal finances as good, up three points from August, while 17 percent said they were excellent, according to Bloomington, Ill.-based Country Insurance & Financial Services.
In addition, 55 percent said they were able save or invest more, while 81 percent said they felt confident about repaying debts, the survey found.
"Americans aren't letting recent news about a credit crunch, changing interest rates, and predictions of a recession drive how they feel about their own financial security," Keith Brannan, the director of Country's financial security office, said in a statement. Instead, many people are taking a closer look at their finances and finding they're in pretty good shape, Brannan said.
