More Companies Poised to Go Public
More companies registered for an initial public offering over the third quarter, though the number that actually went public dropped, according to Ernst & Young.
Between July and September, 151 companies registered for IPOs to raise a total of $30.4 billion, up from 97 companies and $18.2 billion the previous quarter. By contrast, only 26 of these companies went public, down from 59 in the second quarter.
Technology, pharmaceuticals, and oil and gas companies continued to lead IPO registrations, accounting for more than half in the third quarter.
So far this year, 100 companies have gone public on U.S. exchanges, compared to a total of 187 in 2006.
