Inc.com Polls - Make Yourself Heard

HELP & FAQ

What's this all about?

What is the purpose of an online poll?
Online polls are a simple way to find out what's on our visitors' mind, and we've found that people come back often to see the results of votes, and read other people's comments.
Why is Inc.com offering FREE polls?
We've built the software, and we have the database in place. Since we need to maintain it anyway for our own polls, why not make it available to our visitors? And of course we want more people to visit our site.
Do I have to be a Inc. subscriber?
You DO NOT need to be a subscriber to Inc. magazine to access any of the free Inc.com online services. You DO need to register for access to this service. Then you can sign in to the site. (Inc.com offers once-only registration for all online services such as Discussions -- if you are already using one of these, then you are able to build your own polls using the same login name and password.)
Why would I want to build my own polls?
Do you have a web site? Would you like to find out what your site visitors think? You can use polls to make your site more interactive. Ask specific questions and have people choose from 2, 3, or 4 answers and collect their feedback and comments. The results are available to everyone immediately.

Building Fast Feedback polls

How do I go about making my own online poll?
It's drop-dead simple.
Click on the "create a new poll" link from the menu at the top of any page.
1) Type the question you want to ask.
2) Type the multiple choice answers.
3) Get a confirmation code emailed to you.
4) Activate your poll and start gathering feedback!
Can I set up more than one poll?
Why not 100 -- there is no limit to the number of polls you can set up here.
Can people vote more than once?
Not really... technically, there is a limit of one vote per answer per day per remote IP. Which basically means that people cannot stack the voting in any malicious or vaguely useful way. There is no limit to the number of comments a person can add.
Are there any restrictions?
Yep - you cannot use these polls for illegal purposes, for distributing pornographic material, gratuitous swearing, making bombs, spreading peanut butter, or even evil rumors about people. Use your common sense and you can do pretty much as you please. Act like an idiot, and we'll shut you down.
Are there any guarantees?
Nope - this system might blow up at any time. We might go out of business. An airplane might land on our server and burn all the backups to a cinder. How likely this is depends on your greater world view and personal level of pessimism. Here's the bottom line : we use the poll system for our own online voting, so we're deeply and intimately interested in keeping it running. If data gets lost, we're going to do everything in our power to recover it. I'd advise you not to base your life purpose or business income future on any free services.

Trouble signing in?

Why do I keep getting logged off?
Some browser software does not refresh web pages correctly, and it will look like you're being signed out. Try adjusting your browser options/preferences to refresh the pages at every visit. Or click 'refresh' whenever the page does not seem to be updating.
We have a diagnostic wizard here that can help solve most access problems.
If you're using Explorer 3, you have to upgrade to a later version.
I lost my password.
If you've already signed up for one of the Inc.com services, use our email responder to find your login name and password.
Can I access without using Cookies?
No. This site uses cookies to keep track of who owns which polls, and to help people fill out their feedback forms. The cookie does not contain specific personal information, and is not used to pass information about you to other web sites.

What is the Inc.com privacy policy?
It is available in full at http://www.inc.com/about/privacy.html
How do I link to a poll?
Visit any active poll results page. At the bottom of the page is a link to "Grab the HTML code here!". You may also like to contact the owner of the poll and tell them where you are planning to add the links.
I need to ask a question that is not answered here.
Email the site administrator :
NOTE: Individual polls are created and managed by members of the Inc.com community. If you have a question related to a specific poll, you'll find their email address linked at the bottom of the poll.
I want to complain about a poll.
You need to contact the owner of the specific poll first. If you do not get a satisfactory answer from the owner within a few days, then you can email the site administrator
You will need to copy the URL of the poll, otherwise we cannot help you at all. Do not expect miracles from us though - our general policy is to leave people to their own common sense, and only in extreme cases will we take action to remove comments by our visitors.
