Column by Doug Ducey

Doug Ducey leads one of America’s fastest-growing franchise concepts. In five short years, Doug and his team have taken Cold Stone Creamery from just a handful of stores in the West, to a worldwide concept with more than 1,200 stores in the U.S., the Caribbean, Guam, Japan, and coming soon to Korea. He has another 1,000 locations in development and supports a community of more than 1,000 franchisees -- more than 50% of whom own multiple stores. Doug is driven by his ambitious vision -- that the world will know Cold Stone Creamery as the Ultimate Ice Cream Experience, by becoming the best-selling ice cream brand in the U.S. by December 31, 2009. He’s known for his intense focus, and his ability to inspire everyone around him.

Doug is on a continual quest for business “best practices?? and views change as a catalyst for growth. He challenges his team to support and deliver results to the franchisees because the true measure of Cold Stone’s success is the success of the franchisee community. He and the company have been featured on CBS, ABC, NBC, CNBC, CNN, and other national news broadcasts as well as in Inc., Fast Company, Time, Newsweek, USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, and numerous other publications. Doug’s career spans nearly 20 years, including executive sales and marketing positions with Procter & Gamble and Anheuser-Busch. An Ohio native and a graduate of Arizona State University, Doug was recently inducted into ASU’s W.P. Carey School of Business Hall of Fame.
