Recommended Resources
Inc.com's columnist Jeff Landers shares his favorite links to online business resources:
1. The Edward Lowe Foundation
www.edwardlowe.org
The Edward Lowe Foundation is a non-profit that helps businesses in the "second stage." That is, one step beyond "start-up". They tackle issues like nailing down a long-term vision for your company and moving your business away from dependence on you, the founder. If your business is now in the second stage or approaching it, I highly recommend a visit because these folks probably have the answers to a lot of your questions.
2. Ladies Who Launch
www.ladieswholaunch.com
This site is a great networking opportunity for women entrepreneurs. The idea is to connect successful women with other successful women. They host events, a newsletter, community boards and incubator programs where women can exchange and re-tool business ideas. Experienced women can increase their visibility by being profiled here and new entrepreneurs can get some valuable support and advice to get their business on its legs.
3. Wil Schroter
www.wilschroter.com
A great blog written by a young "serial entrepreneur and start-up junkie" who doles out valuable nuggets for your business. Wil isn't shy about telling you he wasn't the brightest student in his class or on the fast track to success and because of that he has that "everyman" feel. He started his first company at 19 and since then, has launched and sold several companies for tens of millions of dollars. There is some really good advice here.
4. Small Business Advocate
www.smallbusinessadvocate.com
Jim Blasingame operates an online radio show and has put together a large community of small business experts - and he trots them out to give free advice every half hour on his show. Jim has compiled such a wide variety of speakers, consultants and authors that speak on everything from legal issues to marketing that it is impossible not to find an expert who can inform you about issues that are directly impacting your business.
5. Start Up Nation
www.startupnation.com
Although this site is primarily for start-ups (hence the name); I particularly like their blogs. They tackle serious issues but it isn't dry. These people have fun with business and you can tell they love it. Their nationwide syndicated “real” radio show airs weekly – every Saturday, but may shortly go to a daily format. They host a slate of guests who have "made it" and they use their experience to help up and comers. They also invite entrepreneurs to call in with specific questions, making this a free resource for people looking to solve a problem.
6. SCORE - Counselors to America’s Small Business
www.score.org
SCORE is a non-profit supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration. This site is great because you can get advice, coaching and mentoring from successful business people all for FREE!! They also have almost 400 office locations around the country so you can meet with someone face-to-face if you prefer not to do it online. You can’t do better than this.
7. Small Business Development Centers
sbdcnet.utsa.edu
This is another non-profit organization supported by the U.S. Small Business Administration. Similar to SCORE, you can also get FREE advice, coaching and mentoring from successful business people. They also have hundreds of office locations around the country mostly on college campuses. This is another superb resource.
