"Seasoned Sistah Scores A Hit with Best Seller!!

Vicki Ward
Nubian Images Publishing

I'm a very satisfied woman, just having computed the sales of my book for nine months, with over 3000 sold! Yeah, my little company created from sheer will, determination and an overwhelming inner need did well. I almost forget some of the hard times, like when I sent out the call for submissions and weeks went by before anything came. Mature women of color from all walks of life from all over the country were sending their heartfelt stories to become a part of "Life's Spices From Seasoned Sistahs."

It was, as I've told many, the hardest job I have ever done, and I would wake up tomorrow, and the day after and start it all again. Deciding to become the editor of an anthology was not my first intention. I wanted to produce a body of work that all women, could learn from, could identify with, that would be a compilation of the voices of women of color. The voices that we just don't hear enough from. I was so convinced I financed the business through loans, and credit cards.

Some didn't believe I would do this. They asked "what do you know about publishing?" I never doubted myself. At times, I grew weary from the long hours on my day job, only to have to come home and work at least four hours each evening, but I never doubted I would publish my book. As a mature women over 50 this was a daunting undertaking that has re-energized me.

We're growing with two future tities: "Shades of Survival, Breast Cancer Survival Stories From Mature Women of Color" to be published in 2006, and "More of Life's Spices From Mature Women of Color," to be published in 2007. Why do I do this? Because the world needs to know.

  1. Absolutely awesome. Congratulations and...thank you. Having seen my grandmother's struggles at 56 and the many experiences my mom has during her recent entry into 50, you're right...the world needs to know. If ever in Jersey City, please come by my juice bar (BaGua Juice).
