Signs of the Times

The business boosting potential of digital signage and other innovative presentation technologies will be on display at InfoComm 07 www.Infocommshow.com from June 15-21, at the Anaheim Convention Center. Here's a preview of some of the most dynamic of these new business tools.

 

Digital Signage

Several manufacturers including Samsung www.samsung.com , NEC www.multeos.com , and ViewSonic www.viewsonic.com will show new large screen displays with enhanced digital signage capabilities. Samsung's new 400PXn and 460PXn LCD monitors feature an embedded Windows XP computer running MagicNet software, enabling a variety of cost-effective signage applications. Both models feature 1366 x 768 pixel resolution and 1200:1 contrast ratio, plus a fast 8ms response time. The 400PXn is available for $3,639, and 460PXn for $5,455.

The new NEC Multeos M40 and M46 are elegant, thin-bezel LCD flat-panels with NEC's Digital Signage Technology Suite. The M40 is priced at $3,600, and M46 at $4,800.

ViewSonic's latest lineup includes the 42-inch ND4210w HD LCD network display that comes equipped with an integrated media player, Flash enabled Web-browser and 40 GB hard drive. It is available for $3,499.

Signage in the Stream

VBrick Systems offers complete solutions for the delivery, management, and storage of live and recorded video across LAN, WAN, and the Internet. VBrick's latest multimedia appliance, the VBStar WM, is an all-in-one Windows Media encoder, decoder, recorder, and simple video server. This $5,500 unit is easy to set up, and does everything from recording events in high-quality digital video, to serving up live or canned business TV to 50 or more desktop users on a network.

Scala InfoChannel 5 includes a powerful set of digital signage tools that enable businesses to set up customized digital signage applications. One of the new options available with InfoChannel 5 enables deployment of secure Web-based forms that allow authorized users to update specific fields of information (e.g., the new times for a departmental event or meeting). InfoChannel 5's advanced, scalable architecture facilitates the deployment to one or to thousands of screens--all managed from a central location anywhere in the world.

Wireless Ronin Technologies has parleyed its versatile, secure, and visually compelling signage system for the gaming industry into a comprehensive solution for the management of a broad range of digital signage applications. The recently released version 2.3 of RoninCast provides enhanced software tools for customized distribution, network management, playlist creation and scheduling, and database integration.
