How I Work Smarter

Getting in with the "in" crowd

The Upper East Side harbors some of the toniest addresses in New York City and is home to more than a few of the rich and famous. For all that, it’s still a close-knit community, one where everyone knows each other, says Dennis Hatzigeorgakis, a partner in Lenox Hill Florist & Events. It’s a market where success hinges on stellar word-of-mouth and customer service that is off the charts, and the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter helps Lenox Hill Florist deliver on both counts—literally and figuratively.

“We take pride in everything that leaves this store,” Hatzigeorgakis says. “We try to keep everyone happy to ensure positive word-of-mouth, which is the best type of advertising. The Sprinter allows us to deliver larger arrangements, branches, and plants without compromising the look of the design during the delivery process. It really stands out in city traffic, so people always see our Sprinter on the road.”

“We think outside the box in our approach to floral design and event management, and Sprinter has the same qualities. We chose it for convenience, flexibility, and safety.”

A shared commitment to stellar service

Lenox Hill Florist got its 2010 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Model 2500 Cargo Van with 144-inch wheelbase from Prestige Motors in Paramus, New Jersey, and the dealership experience is part of what sold Hatzigeorgakis on the vehicle. “They treated us the way we treat our customers, so there was a sense of shared values. They convinced us of what a good match Sprinter would be for our business, and that’s just how it has worked out so far.”

An artist friend did the graphics work on Lenox Hill Florist’s Sprinter, an understated floral motif in keeping with the shop’s dignified and low-key brand image. The capacious cargo area tops Hatzigeorgakis’s list of things he likes about the Sprinter, but the fuel economy provided by its BlueTEC diesel engine and the van’s maneuverability through the Big Apple’s traffic-clogged streets are also important. “Our drivers find the Sprinter very comfortable for everyday deliveries,” he says. “We do many weddings and events, and with the Sprinter we can do a single delivery for everything—multiple arrangements, linen, pedestals, props, plants—that would require additional trips in our other van.”
