During our test, this 4.4-ounce video camera, which is waterproof up to 10 feet, shot crisp, 1080-pixel videos and 5-megapixel photos. Shockproof up to 5 feet, it withstood a drop on a concrete pool deck. It has enough memory for only five photos and one short video, but you can add up to 32GB with an SD card.

Due out in late July, this waterproof MP3 docking station can float next to you in a pool and withstand dunks. It connects with a variety of MP3 players, including iPods, using a 3.5-mm jack. On the downside, there’s no built-in battery charger.

This digital thermometer lets you monitor the temperature of meat on the grill from up to 200 feet away, using a Bluetooth connection and an app for the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch, or an Android device. The iGrill was easy to use and accurate. One complaint: We lost our Bluetooth connection when we removed the probe to flip a steak.

The 13-pound Element is easy to carry and set up, with two handles that fold down into legs and a socket for a propane canister. It comes with a travel band that holds the legs and lid in place for transport. We cooked up two steaks at a time on the roomy 14.5- by 11-inch cast-iron grill plate.
