The Lyric hearing aid created by Insound Media, of Newark, California, fits deep in the ear canal, close to the eardrum, and can be worn 24 hours a day for months at a time. In addition to the high-quality sound, the devices promise users worry-free showers and comfortable sleep. The company is experimenting with a subscription-revenue model that covers replacements, upgrades, and visits to the audiologist; Insound Media charges an annual fee of $1,650, compared to the one-time price tag of $2,000 for most other hearing aid models.
