Command Performance

The year will be over soon. Are you preparing for your annual employee reviews? Small business owners may dread criticizing workers or welcome the chance to address concerns. Either way, you probably have had some interesting reviews, as the employer or employee. A website called Worst Review lets you read people's tales of reviews past. You can also submit your own stories, if you like.

Though the site exists as an entertaining read and to populate a contest, it can be more than that. The list of review stories could be a useful resource for a small business owner or manager. These horror tales provide concrete examples of how not to conduct an annual review. While management books may suggest guidelines to entrepreneurs, reading actual accounts can be more useful. These performance reviews are an owner's opportunity to finesse their operation, by letting their employees know what works and what doesn't, and by learning from them how they all can be better supervised.
