E-mail Leaks Sink Ships, too

 

Are your trade secrets making the rounds online?

A recent joint study by messaging firms Mirapoint and Radicati found that a full 6% of employees polled admitted e-mailing confidential corporate data to outside sources.

Worse, some 62% said they routinely send business-related e-mails from their personal accounts, circumventing company e-mail controls.

While the figures may not seem all that high, Radicati president Sara Radicati said, "it only takes one e-mail to leak critical trade secrets that can cripple an organization's business strategy."

She said the study shows there is a greater need for companies to establish strict e-mail usage policies.
