What to Wear

 

Office attire has gone through many evolutions in the past few decades, from mandated dress codes to the exceptional casual Fridays to wide-open, wear-what-you-will environments.

With all these wardrobe changes, you'd think it wouldn't matter anymore what a person wore to the office. But two articles in The Business Review (Albany) this week reveal that attire is of utmost importance:

  • The first argues that job candidates must conform to a conservative business style;
  • The second discusses the dress code dilemma companies face in a diverse apparel world, including whether to allow jeans, and how strict to make the guidelines among employees who have direct contact with customers.
