Should You Fire Unmotivated Employees?
In the advice column in our June issue, a reader asked: "How can we keep employees excited and motivated when we're no longer seeing skyrocketing growth?" In our answer, we wrote about two CEOs who faced a similar problem, and fired the grumpy employees. (We also wrote about the struggles of one of those CEOs, Vance Patterson, in 2005.)
We knew it would be a controversial answer, and we've already gotten one letter criticizing us for suggesting that business owners fire the very people who got them where they are. What do you think? Have you ever faced a similar situation in your business? If so, what did you do? Leave a comment below or email us at mail@inc.com.
