Dell Needs A Winning Streak

The Dell "Don't Call Me A Cellphone" Streak is officially on its way - via the United Kingdom first.

Round Rock, Texas-based Dell says the Streak will go on sale in the UK first PDQ (early June). However, it won't be available in the United States until the end of the summer.

Although it truly is a cell phone, Dell insists on referring to it as a tablet. Okay, if you must. Yes, it's a tablet with a five inch screen.

Here to clear this all up; a direct quote from Direct2Dell blogger, Lionel Menchaca:

"The Dell is a hybrid device that lives in the space between a smartphone and other larger tablets or netbooks that you might be using right now."

There's a space between the smartphone and the iPad? Good thing the Streak only has a five inch screen or it might not fit such a narrow space!

I wish great things for Dell. But, I don't think this is going over the back fence.

It's basically an oversized Droid smartphone. Who needs it?

Yes, I think it would be more enjoyable to watch a movie or read a map on a five inch screen than a 3.5 inch screen on an iPhone.

But, here's why I smell gas:

1. It won't fit in your pants pocket.

2. It's too close to the size of a smartphone. It's too big to replace my smartphone and it makes no sense to have two devices with a 1.5 inch difference in size. I think it's a hard enough sell expecting people to own both a smartphone and a ten inch iPad tablet (or future competing device to come).

3. It's too small to replace my netbook.

4. It looks ridiculously big holding it up against the ear.

No word on pricing. Who cares? I think very few will want to pull the trigger at any price. It makes no sense.
