So You Think You Can Blog…
So you think you can blog? Well according to Technorati, the Internet search engine designed specifically for blogs, as of June 2008, there were 112.8 million blogs and over 250 million pieces of tagged social media. Wow! Could this be a new form of interactive electronic voyeurism?
For most of us, what is a blog? The word "blog" is derived from the two words "Web Log." Techies love acronyms but for the lay person it is just a plain old diary. A diary was once a place you could hide your thoughts and years later you would stumble upon a cry or laugh. There you would find your rants and raves including some secrets you wouldn't want the world to know.
What was a simple process meant to maintain your sanity now has been super-sized by the advent of mass communication and fed by people's desire for 15 minutes of fame on the internet. I have had the chance to view a variety of internet blogs looking for some vivacious, passionate reading just like a romance novel but found few if any that titillated to the senses. It seems that the domain of the disgruntled workers or the pensive romantic is slowly going away. What I find more now is slick pieces that are designed to market a product or service, leaving a passionate void.
So what does it take to create a good blog? Easy, stop thinking and start feeling! It sounds simple but it's hard sometimes to say what you want. In a world of politically correct words it's refreshing to read something that we all feel but are afraid to write. So I beg you'¦go ahead, tell the truth, don't get yourself into too much trouble, and have lots of fun. That's what a blog is for.
If people use your service or product afterward that's a blessing, but not the message. It doesn't matter if your diary, (oops) blog, is personal, corporate or now the latest is going Hollywood with a "vlog" (video log). Everyone loves a good storyteller and usually wants more of the same--human beings are not that complicated, we just make it too technical. It doesn't matter if you are using the latest mobile device (PDA's), laptop or webcam to blog. There are no rules as to the millions of topics or how long it should be. It's your 15 minutes of fame and everyone loves a sequel.
It's all good, but just do me a favor, make it passionate!
