Cal-Tex Protective Coatings
Before Bob Pruitt was CEO of Cal-Tex, there was a significant divide in the office: the upstairs was reserved for executives, while everyone else was stuffed downstairs. But after a switch in management, the upstairs was converted into conference rooms, and Pruitt took an office downstairs. "I think it said we're all important," says Pruitt. "We all have different roles and responsibilities, but no one is looked at on a higher pedestal." As an example of that tight-knit philosophy, Pruitt remembers when an employee had a fire in their home and didn't have insurance; within days, everyone pitched in to buy paint and carpet to repair the damage.
